One Song Two Projects

The Black National Anthem

Coincidentally, this month we worked on two projects that involved the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a song written by James Weldon Johnson at the dawn of the 20th century that became known as the Black National Anthem.

First, we developed the music packaging for SaAnkh’s newest release, featuring Frank McComb’s on vocals. The cover features atmospheric artwork by painter Manny Diaz.

Our second project was a website for the award-winning documentary A New Day Begun by Keith Michael Brown. The film explores the song’s 126-year journey and legacy—from its origins at a segregated Florida school to its resonance at the inauguration of the first Black president and its 125th-anniversary performance at Super Bowl LIX.
